I'm looking to create/compile some lists of typical cuisine in the Flanaess, for purposes of incidental color and detail. In order to do that, I'm looking for Gary-authored descriptions of food and drink to use as guides. So far I've got the following:
The hill giants' larder in G1
The tavern in B2
The Inn of the Welcome Wench in T1
The monstrous banquet in EX2
References to whiskey in "At Moonset Blackcat Comes" in Dragon #100
The feast Gord and Gellor share in Stoink in Saga of Old City
Am I missing any other significant references?
Gary's later-period Living Fantasy went into quite a bit of detail about this (and I assume his contemporary Yggsburgh book did as well) but I don't consider it a good reference because Gary's ideas had changed by then - he explicitly states that, except for gunpowder, the assumed technology level in LF is that of Europe around 1650 (and in some areas even later), and there are numerous references to tobacco, coffee, and tea, all of which are conspicuously absent from the earlier texts (save a lone mention of "bark tea" in B2), which gives them a decidedly more medieval flavor.
Are there any references in any of Gary's TSR-era (or immediately post-TSR era) texts to anyone in Greyhawk smoking, drinking coffee or tea, or eating "New World" foods like potatoes and corn? And if so, does it seem like something that might be regional (e.g. western - Bakluni or Suhfangese), cultural (e.g. particular non-humans), or perhaps limited to cosmopolitan wizards and adventurer-types who can be assumed to have knowledge and experience with other planes (e.g. inhabitants of Weird Way)?
Also, this feels like something that someone before now would have already compiled, but a couple of quick Google searches didn't turn anything up. Do you know if somebody else has already done this and posted it somewhere online? Of course if they have I'm sure they included all sorts of post-Gary garbage that I'd have to edit out, and which might render the whole thing unusable, but it would still be nice to take a look at.
