Is there a compiled catalog of work attributed per each artist, for the 1e core books, modules, and other accessory publications?
Often artists' initials I see scribed into their work, but not in every instance.
It would be interesting for all 1e publications to have an artist index, but I was looking at the MM first. I'm most interested in being able to identify a complete compilation of works by both DAT and DCS?

If you're on Facebook, you might ask Patrick Wilshire if he knows of such a series of indices.
Allan.

I've never seen anything but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist. It just seems unlikely. Trampier is consistently good and Sutherland, although sloppy, is a master of feeling. The illustrator Wayne Reynolds, who worked on Osprey historical books for years, I really believed that if he came to D&D it would be great. Boy, was I wrong in that regard! I look back on stuff that he did for the historics now with disgust even though I once considered it good. All I see now is big ass boots and stupid-looking dragons offscreen.

I agree with your comments regarding DAT and DCS. Gene, are you able to discern just by feel of the artist's characteristics the uninitialed artwork within the MM, who you believe to by the artist per each illustration?

Gene, are you able to discern just by feel of the artist's characteristics the uninitialed artwork within the MM, who you believe to by the artist per each illustration? I think so. Thats why I'm not so keen at these old school conventions because I've been an open critic of everybody. I think you have to put some kind of energy into things to make them real. For example, the worst thing that set me off on Larry Elmore, as I kind of held him in medium regard as a "cool guy", was in 2002. I went up to his booth at GenCon and he was selling a Monster Manual of the creatures of the "World of Larry Elmore" which I had already bought some (2?) books from and after I purchased the book, with cash put directly into his hand, I had asked him a question about one of the monsters. He looked at me like I had seven heads then dismissed the whole thing as someone else's invention as if he was too busy to give an iota of thought towards it. The thing was that my question was about an already painted monster that had been out for years and years but was featured in the book as part of this "universe" thing. So it was interesting. I was confused and lost after that. About a year later was my D20 purge and that Elmore shit was the first to go. Now, whenever someone says that Gary liked Elmore, I take it with a grain of salt and remember that Gary probably never even set eye on a single caption of SNARFQUEST or perused the blandy Mentzer Basic updates which he probably would have tore to shreds after reading Mentzer's sycophantic lauding of Bryan Blume. And I have good cause to believe it. Having been off the Elmore wagon for some time, I had questioned Gary about the cabbage head-looking Elmore helmets and he didn't even know what the fuck I was talking about. I specifically said the Basic And Expert sets from 1983 had people with big bonnet helmets that looked almost like SPACEBALLS and then he went right back into using the "I wasn't involved in the art" card. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a super fan of anybody. Trampier is flawed too in a way. I think he was directly inspired by Disney comics of the 40's and up but he wasn't brave enough to put a dick on it like everybody else was doing in the 70's.
