Enjoyed this combination of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Beauty and the Beast.
Wish more films like this would be made.
If not for Three Billboards Ouside of Ebbing Missouri, which I like overall somewhat better, the Shape of Water would have been my preference for best picture.
Although Get Out was very good, it was not as well executed on film as these other two movies. I hope Get Out is awarded for best original screenplay.
Hopefully Bladerunner will get some deserved awards, such as best cinematography and maybe some others?

I kept thinking of Abe Sapien from HELLBOY when I saw the trailer for THE SHAPE OF WATER. Any connection?

I kept thinking of Abe Sapien from HELLBOY when I saw the trailer for THE SHAPE OF WATER. Any connection? From a movie character standpoint, there is not a connection, because the fish-man in Shape of Water, though intelligent, is an intelligent raw wild creature that has to learn how to communicate. There are anatomical differences also.

Could be maybe thats where it started? Perhaps an Abe Sapien spin off and they lost the rights from complications?
It might be they do that shit all the time. That RED SPARROW trailer just made me groan with how Hollywood just runs with the ball even if the ball is dropped. Its obviously a script intended for Marvel. I think there was another case two years ago but it was the opposite it was an actor. The Aquaman actor posted a too bad Marvel mysterious tweet with him in an Aquaman costume. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that guy looks like Submariner and looks nothing like Aquaman.

I kept thinking of Abe Sapien from HELLBOY when I saw the trailer for THE SHAPE OF WATER. Any connection? At the risk of being Captain Obvious, both movies have the same director (Guillermo Del Toro) and it's the same actor inside the suit for both characters (Doug Jones), so yeah, there's definitely a connection, but only at that level, not within the universe of the movies.

Yeah, I had read online somewhere they said it wasn't the same guy. But I thought maybe they were lying. Another movie with a fish-man, directed by del Toro... it just seems like they had to be linked in some way. But I guess not!

I'm aware its the same staff, I was just thinking its a Hollywood thing where if you put forth something you repackage.
