On our second jaunt into the dungeon, the party listens at a door, hears nothing, and after three tries to bash it open -- and making lots of noise -- we attract six wandering goblins. After throwing dagger, spear, and handaxe, and missing with all three, we engage in melee with the goblins. Toreus is hit by a goblin for 6 hit points. And then a round later Volgar is hit for 6 hit points. Mirzod saved us with sleep spell. The six goblins had 15 sp each, and after looting the bodies, we leave the dungeon. Toreus and Volgar heal up for six days back at the Green Dragon Inn.
Loot from this adventure is 14 sp.
After this game, we decided to convert from OD&D to AD&D. Our history lesson is over. We're back to playing my favorite game of all time... AD&D!

I had some connection issues tonight which slowed the pace down. Afterwards I noticed my kids must have disconnected my WiFi, probably to speed up an Xbox download, and the reconnected to the wrong network (not the 5G). I like OD&D, but as a change of pace game. If I am running a long term campaign, I prefer AD&D, so I am looking forward to moving forward in 1E.

Still looking for players, and I'm trying to capture the early campaigns feel before the 'one party for life' mentality set in. I'd like some PC rivalry, sometimes allies, evil PCs, etc. Being part of a regular party that plays on a regular schedule is definitely not the expectation.

Sorry, I can't make it this Thursday. I'll be in Raleigh.
I have to say, though, I like the Roll20 games a lot more than I thought I would. It's a great option to have, especially in the winter months.

Toreus, updated to AD&D
Strength 18/18 (+1/+3) Intelligence 10 Wisdom 9 Dexterity 15 Constitution 11 Charisma 9
Hit Points: 10 (Scott's house rule for max hit points starting out) Armor Class: 2 Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Weapon proficiencies: double specialized in longsword (+3/+3), proficient in spear.
Money: 186 sp, 7 ep, 99 gp.
Equipment: Plate mail, helmet, shield, long sword, spear, hand axe, leather back pack, 50' of rope, waterskin, 6 torches (1), 2 weeks of rations (10). Added a handaxe taken from slain orcs.
XP: 182
THE PARTY
- Toreus and Rollo, two fighting men from the Wild Coast (Gary and Mark) - Volgar the fighting man and Mirzod the magic-user, two fellows met at the Green Dragon Inn in Greyhawk (NPCs) - Three men-at-arms each with chainmail, shield, sword and spears. - Linkboy hired by Rollo for a month; although a non-combatant, Toreus gave him a hand axe as a back-up weapon.
SUMMARY: Volgar the fighting man and Mirzod the magic-user decided to accompany us for our third delve into the dungeons below the ruins of Castle Greyhawk. Returning to the door we couldn't open in the last jaunt into the dungeon, where we encountered the goblins, Toreus forced the door open this time and was hit by spear trap for 6 hp damage. Further along, we opened another door and encountered several gnolls and a human cleric. The fighters slew a couple of gnolls before Mirzod cast a sleep spell, dropping the others, leaving only the crazy-eyed cleric still awake, who was trying to cast a spell. The fighters charged him, but the evil cleric got his spell off and paralyzed Volgar and Rollo. Toreus was unable to hit the cleric after several tries, and the cleric got off another spell, and caused Toreus to retreat in fear at a touch... Luckily, behind him, Mirzod read a dispel magic from a scroll, dispelling both the paralyzation and the fear effects. Whew! On the bodies and in the room we recovered: flask, scroll tube, two pottery jugs (water, vinegery wine), a half-eaten wild boar, bed roll, 600 sp, 20 gp, gold necklace with gemstone on it, and six more spears for the door trap. With Toreus and Rollo each wounded, the adventurers withdrew from the dungeon and successfully made it back to town, happy to have survived!

That seems like a pretty solid house rule by Scott of max hit points for starting out PCs, since EGG typically started OD&D new PCs at third level, and I believe third level OD&D characters are roughly equivalent to second level AD&D characters? Does anyone else use this house rule also, or something similar to give a hit point boost to starting PCs above and beyond the UA minimums? I might make this house rule adjustment for the current campaign PCs, because the current adventure is really tough even using the UA hit point minimums for starting PCs?

Have you added a cleric yet to your party?
