I've been waiting for this one for a long time:

The premise sounded interesting when the book was out but this looks kind of sketchy Transformer-esque with the Shia Labeouf stand-in and gnarled up CGI.

I like Spielberg's heavy involvement with this. I think it hits a sweet spot with him. He's not a director I worry about letting the effects overshadow the story. He did screw up War of the Worlds though, but it wasn't the effects, and the Jurassic Park sequel was awful.

I have a wait and see approach. I don't think you can rely on trailers anymore. And Spielberg, though he has made great movies, also has made duds like you say. But I did enjoy the book, so I think there is some solid material to work with, and this theme should resonate with today's plugged-in youth culture.
I'm just hoping to see the Tomb of Horrors!

Spoiler included. I saw this today. I liked it. They changed the challenges from the books, and it was a nice switch up, but they did cut the Tomb of Horrors, which was the biggest bummer of the flick.

Enjoyed RPO. Am interested in reading the book now. Noticed number #1172 on the truck...very fun nostalgia!
