Half of my free time I'm trying to iron out these adventures and the other half is trying to get in the mood to do iron out the adventures.
Maybe in addition to fantasy related books we should have group reviews of D&D game related game material. Perhaps if its rules that are all over the place we can break it down into cross book categories Like "humanoids", "magic books", "healing", etc
As for "N" fiction that has crusted over in my mind, I'd say Leiber is the most crusty but that list is only a guideline. Having been shocked out that Gary was not fond of Clark Ashton Smith really blew my mind because hell if it wasn't for CAS my D&D days would have been long over.
I've read a lot of crap fantasy when I was in the SCIENCE FICTION BOOK CLUB in the 80's and 90's. I had quit because I'd always keep the crappy selection of the month and it was literally a wall of mediocre literature spell by the mid-90's. I can't even recall the names of some of the crap that I got from that era. Its all blended in with the TSR novel reading that I purged from memory. PN Elrod's "Strahd" I also had an audiobook of this as a "gift" (cringe), "Dark Sun" series, etc. The Death Dealer series is one that was mediocre that I kept getting like an asshole. I never got into most pop 80's fantasy because they'd lose me on the first book. I recall reading things with Robert Lynn Asprin on the cover but I don't know what the hell I was reading.
The only comedy fantasy that I completely read was the Ebenezum/Wuntvor books but that guy retired from that series to do movie adaptations. I always kept a look out for that but another one never surfaced. (Turns out he had another short story in an anthology in 2005...) I never got into Asprin or Pratt. I still thin Vance is probably the fantasy that was funny and at the same time very evocative.
