I'll admit that I have not been playing video games for a while since finishing THE WALKING DEAD: SURVIVAL INSTINCT in June. I haven't even looked at games coming out since last year though. The other day I was surprised and received a PC game as a gift called METRO LAST LIGHT. Its a post-apocalyptic journey into Moscow's underground where something happened in the last game and novel (?) METRO 2033 that involved aliens invading Earth and starting a nuclear war. Anyway it says the novel is included on the disk.
Its a make your own custom guns game and bullets are money.
The beginning it seemed like the monsters were hallucinations but as I soon found out that assumption was wrong. The city can be entered from below with a gas mask and its crawling with mutants. Some kind of wolf-like giant rats, some gargoyles called "demons", and all kinds of crustacean things. In the underground you have to watch out for survivors most of all because they're part of various groups I won't say who are the bad ones though.
For the most part this a railroad (it even has a rail car segment!), you have to follow through with "the story" as there are instances when you're reacting to a threat and the game locks into story mode for some parts.
The good:
This is very atmospheric with the dripping, cobwebbed tunnels and junk piled streets.
Its also very exotic with all the Russian survivors. It can be a little off to American senses and one segment trumps DUKE NUKEM (the original anyway, I never played the last and final installment from 2011) with a naked lap dance by a stripper which was totally odd considering the rest of the interaction.
Has backstab and putting out lights as an alternative to straight out fight and I've done both to see if possible.
The bad: This thing needs a somewhat new video card. I have a built in AMD RADEON HD 7570, 10 GB ram, and a FX6200 six core 3.80 ghz processor and one sequence in a certain room was choppy as hell but its was flawless in other areas.
