Maylin and his henchmen have been rampaging through my Greyhawk Dungeon levels.
On the 3rd level, the party rescued a barbarian and monk from a gnoll dungeon. They were both defectors from the Cult of Nerull/Scarlet Brotherhood that control much of the 4th dungeon level, The Crypts. The Scarlet Brotherhood use Suel berserkers and barbarians for muscle. Both of the prisoners have sworn a year of service to their rescuer.
After taking the pair back to town to heal and equip, Maylin returned to the dungeons. This time he wanted to explore deeper dungeons. Knowing that the 4th level was infested with undead, Maylin headed for the stairs to the 5th level he had discovered on a previous expedition. After following some 10’ wide corridors, Maylin discovered a large set of metal double doors. It took three characters to get the doors open. Beyond was a room, 40’ across, with a 20’ wide passage heading south on the other side. Maylin immediately looked up, and spotted a pair of gargoyles stepping off ledges. Maylin, and his new apprentice, Yarko, cast magic missiles on the descending gargoyles. Both gargoyles were badly wounded, and attempted to retreat south, but both were cut out of the air by the fighters before they could get away. A search turned up nothing, so the party headed south, ignoring some narrow side passages, they followed the 20’ wide passage south. Up ahead they could see a weird flickering purplish glow. Creeping up further, they could see a huge octagonal chamber, 100’ wide. In the center was a 30’ diameter pool with large purple/black flames burning from the surface. Looking up again revealed more ledges and gargoyles.
Ahhh, now I have to run. To be continued.
