Is anyone familiar with this technology? I think I have it working but I can't tell.

Sorry, I'm not. I have a Google Plus account, and I've created a Roll 20 account, but I haven't done Google Hangouts -- which I think is similar to Roll 20 or a Skype sort of thing, right?
I was trying to get Scott to run a game on Roll 20, just to do a test run and see how it goes.

I fiddled around with Roll 20. it looks like there's a lot there, but it's not very easy to learn. Gene, how's Google Hangout?

It seems to have ROLL20 built as a plug-in.
The video is lined up at the bottom and I guess you hear everyone but if you click on an image it goes fullscreen.

Have you fiddled with the Roll 20 yet? I've seen some pretty cool screen shots, but haven't been able to do anything with it yet. There are no basic, obvious functions. You have to dig through the help material to figure it out.

it looks like you draw but I vent figured out the tokens or importing maps yet.
As for the "hangout part" no one ever seems available that I would want to talk to on a video phone to test. I tried SKYPE when my wife was in Las Vegas and it was okay.

When you figure it out, import a map, and DM a demo for me.

Okay its frustrating when you get down to some details so I have to get used to it but on the positive side I did figure how to get your own maps on it and how to use the tokens and map symbols they have already.

What about using it to just play D&D as you regularly would, and using the props/special effects minimally -- or not at all? You don't have to use all that junk. Most D&D games are just the DM talking to the players anyway. The chat function is all you really need to play online. As long as everyone can log in and hear each other, that should be enough.

Yes thats a good start so the only real problem probably would be a house full of "QUIET!!!!"... I have the GOOGLE PLUS profile plus.google.com/110690006958853908326If anyone is interested I also have a more public FACEBOOK profile www.facebook.com/gene.weigelI've cut loose all the family except my father's side which is small. But as guideline I'm not hunky dory with any of my relatives so don't get fooled.

I agree. I think a lot of that stuff is too much. I would like a very basic game mat that could be used to map, and maybe movable counters to use during combats.

Yeah, its like miniatures were always peripheral but I cant go without them for some reason. I thin kthe next phase of that system would be to integarte video or classic style miniatures ideally painted (like Grenadiers gold line on the box, etc)

Gene, I have an idea -- why don't you run an online playtest of the intro module you've been working on.

That is actually a good idea even if I have to force it through my schedule. Although I'd rather it be pleasure based these days!
Heh, last weekend I went to help a friend move into his new house from co-op apartment and storage, after it was all over and all the old men were beginning to drink, my wagon load of children showed up tearing at the new house. Time to go! I can never get a break!

How many Weiglettes are there these days? If you're taking requests, I've been wanting to take one of my old PCs out for a spin for a long time. I don't think you're a bard fan, so my 10th level magic-user, 8th or 9th level paladin, or 7th level monk need the dust knocked off of them.

Still three kids and thats where it ends! I hope.
Okay any choice of character will do.
The real problem is going to be timing. The quietest it gets around here is late night with the exception of 6PM to 730PM Fridays. Right now it sounds like a nightmare disco in here.

Yeah, I've got three also, but I think I need another one or two. You can't make an Erelhi Cinlu with just three. I guess I need two more, and I'll have to keep a drow city in mind when I'm picking names.

Whatever happened to the Roll20 gaming idea? Anyone ever figure out how to make this thing work?

I'd still like to play. Lat time I looked, they had terrible instructions, and you sort of had to fumble through everything to figure it out. I kind of got frustrated with it.

Just hooking up by Skype might be the best option. Mapping would have to be old school 'up to the players', but otherwise it would be close to gaming w/o minis.
