I drew some expanded maps with different roads a while ago. I don't know if I could find them though.

Has anyone else developed this starting adventure area?
(This is slightly reworded and reformatted from the DMG p. 91)
Background: In a border area of hills and wild forests, where but a few human settlements exist, there is a band of very rich, but hard-pressed dwarves. They, and the humans, are hard-pressed because of the existence of a large tribe of orcs. The latter have invited ogres to join them, for the resistance of men and dwarves to the orcs' looting and pillaging has cost them not a few warriors. The orcs are gaining, more areas nearby are becoming wilderness, and into abandoned countryside and deserted mines the ferocious and dark-dwelling monsters of wilderness and dungeon daily creep.
Start: The brave party of adventurers comes into a small village to see what is going on, for they have heard that all is not well thereabouts.
Notes for the Dungeon Master only
With but little help they [the party] must then overcome the nasties by piecemeal tactics, being careful not to alert the whole to general warfare by appearing too strong. There is a logical and ordered placement of the major forces of monsters, habitat complexes and modules of various sorts -- abandoned towns, temples, etc. There is also a mixture of random critters to add uncertainty and spice up the standard challenge of masses of orcs and ogres. Over time, it becomes more complex and varied, with a demon and some powerful evil clerics added in.

Nope, but it does sound cool.

Perhaps located in the Kron Hills near the Lortmil Mountains, or else in the Principality of Ulek hills border area next to the Suss Forest. Another option might be the forested hills next to mountains in the southeast Bramblewood Forest, not far from Thornward? It could be used as a lead in to Expedition to the Barrier Peaks? The S3 module could use a hook such as this and development of the surrounding wilderness area...

Sounds like an adventure module: SC1 STANDARD CHALLENGE OF MASSES OF ORCS AND OGRES

This set up is very similar in theme to B2 and a dwarf lair like the gnome lair in S4 could be developed for it. This could easily be set somewhere in "the Borderlands" of B2, on the outskirts of "the Realm" of mankind. I've noticed several recurring themes in EGG's adventures, such as the characters being lured somewhere because they heard "all is not well thereabouts," the threat of turning civilization back into wilderness, evil clerics as villains, etc. I like it that in such a set up, the player characters aren't saddled with the role of heroes, but can easily assume that role if they choose to.
I've thought of the Ulek/Pomarj border, but some even more out of the way place might work even better, like the Bramblewood or some edge of the wilderness region where there are hills and forest.

Another alternative location could be the hills between the Loftwood and the Rakers, bordering the Barony of Ratik to the north and Bone March to the south?

Perhaps some ogres (and gnolls?) from the hills at the headwaters of the Teesar Torrent have joined forces with Vile Rune orcs to contest rival Death Moon orcs for dwarven riches in the hills against the eastern Rakers, since the Vile Rune orcs had been repulsed in the Loftwood by Ratik's forces?
The Baron's forces have their hands full defending the Loftwood to the southeast, the mountain pass to Ratikhill, as well as the Frutzii forces to the north, and the Baron is unwilling to risk more than token support to the hard-pressed dwarves and isolated human settlements in the region?

Powerful evil cleric leaders can be humanoids, half-orcs, and/or humans. Perhaps the demon is a major cambion? Maybe instead immature Nabassu gets sent by Yeenoghu when beseeched by the evil clerics? The ravenous Vaprak "The Destroyer" himself?

Yeah, I like that location for this set up. I'd like to see some adventures set in some more out of the way places in the Flanaess, other than the usual Wild Coast, Kron Hills, Cairn Hills, etc. I think there was a "From the Sorcerer's Scroll" article in DRAGON Magazine that gave some detail on that area, and Ratik was also where some of the SAGARD THE BARBARIAN books starts out there (although soon diverge into a setting that doesn't seem like the Flanaess in later books) so some color from those sources could be included as well.
