Every art class that I ever had I've been classified as a "savant" after watching my technique and I try to explain that its from drawing D&D shit (even before trying to do comics) but it never gets across. I also am noted as doing weird portraits of people that characterize their personality that bug art teachers out and again its from filling out all the damn goldenrod sheets for every player and non-player character!

Gene, you have to get back into drawing.

I just did some maps and started painting a cover image for the 2006 campaign turned module I'm working on but I need a lot of interiors for the new material. A lot of monsters, a character class, and scenes around the "village of Grogham" (the the inn and the tavern, etc.).
I was rutting through all my D&D materials last week and I found a lot of duplication when I couldn't find stuff over the years.
I lost an earlier 1987 Furyondy zoom (stolen most likely) with KOTbut I had redid it almost right away in 1988 and then it got shuffled away in a folder of England maps. I'll post it later when I get the chance.

I'm looking forward to it. You have too much talent to let it atrophy.
I need to get back into doing creative stuff also... I feel like such a slug. I feel like humanity is rapidly evolving into a species of 'internet troll,' and I'm no exception.
*
The internet troll was 9' tall, rubbery, with greenish-gray skin and black eyes and hair. Its claws were long and wicked, and clacked on the computer keys as it spent its entire day hunched over, on the internet.
"These damn computers..." the troll's wife muttered from the kitchen. "When are you going to get out there and into some melee, like you used to?"
"I'm looking for someone to argue with!" the troll replied.
"That's not the same!"

Here was the redo of a stolen map which now that I think about it had a lower half missing of two more sheets this size with 3 or 4 " treasure mapped" areas hence the reason for them being grabbed

This is something I've always wanted to do more of -- region detail maps for certain areas of the Flanaess.
I've always wondered about the Furyondy-Horned Society border. The only thing separating a militant Lawful Good realm from a militant Lawful Evil is a river!

You need some good hex paper, Gene? We make this stuff: Edit: actually, that's the older, single-sided version we don't make anymore. The hexes are still campaign and nested sizes, but they're Wilderlands sized hexes on the front of the sheet, and Greyhawk-sized hexes on the back of the sheet.

I think this was a tracing of the WILDERNESS SURVIVAL GUIDE (1986) hexes. The original zooms had dungeon locations but were on regular graph paper. Those are the ones that started pre-GH and were retrofitted into GH. I have to dig up that notebook with that southern GH country that I invented its bizarre.

Currently over the past few days, a stairway is being built to the dungeon so its all taped off. Dammit! I would have moved the entire hoard upstairs if I knew it was going to take this long! I cant even check WILDERNESS SURVIVAL GUIDE to see if the size matches up to see if I had traced it from there. Going into D&D withdrawal... Quick! Put a lead miniature under my tongue....

I spent the entire weekend doing "gaming archaeology" on my old notebooks and binders and the assessment is not favorable. I kept thinking "Why doesn't this guy write less and draw more?" I came to the conclusion that I've wasted my life trying to write more than draw, and that since I'm a lazy artist I haven't ever progressed much further than "that kid who can draw" from high school. Yet even so, my artwork is better than my writing when I'm looking at what to salvage. All of those game notes and fiction fragments, ugh, it was like reading the work of a madman! So much of it is going down rabbit holes of derivative, world-building nonsense. On the positive side I scanned a lot of drawings and I'll be posting some pictures soon. What's the best way to share images these days?

I go through the 80's comic book collection in a binder sealed in plastic and its scary. No matter how many times I convince myself to look back its like Marvel PG sensibility with National Lampoon's sensationalism for kids. Bad. There is no way around it.

Those are totally atmospheric and spot on. The drawings remind me of the best of Sutherland.
