I went to nee Narnia tonight, but it was sold out, so I went to see King Kong instead. I was disappointed. Loads of effort into the FX, but a thin story and weak characters. Some of the effects scenes are just drawn out way too long (Kong vs. the T. Rexes, the giant bugs). And I don't know how so much time could have been spent before they even got to the island, and there be so little character development accomplished. I guess Jack Black was supposed to be the star, but his character wasn't the right character for that role. The character that should have been the lead, the writer who falls for the chick, was totally weak. Both as a lead actor, and the part as it was written. The native were kind of there, but not really. How did they get Kong back on the boat? 3 stars out of 5 says I. Worth seeing, but really nothing special.

Well, I wasn't really planning on seeing it anyway (don't have many free nights), but thanks for confirming that I really won't be missing anything. Basically you've summed up my problems with movies directed by Peter Jackson. The LOTR movies were long on action sequences but short on story (that is, elements of the story had to be cut because the action sequences were so long).
