I heard some bad things about this movie, so I went into it looking for certain faults. I didn't see them. The main criticism I heard was that they tried to do to much, and everything ended up being too thin. There were a few things that were thin, but they were filler situations that weren't really essential to the plot. I thought the story and character development were both excellently handled. I'm short on time now, so I'll have to add more later. I give it 5 Stars.

I saw the prior one with my daughter and she liked it. But for Xmas last year she got huge pile of movie-related toys (Harry (and the girl)Barbie dolls and miniature figures of the cast and creatures and tons of kiddie books) from various people (not me) and she then decided she hates Harry Potter. I'm having a heck of a time trying to get to see King Kong so I really can't manage a kid's movie if the kid doesn't want to see it! P.S. I still can't believe that the main themes of Potter were completely ripoffed from that popular limey's DC miniseries BOOKS OF MAGIC from 1990 and they never sued. I bet thats probably how Warner Brothers (DC's owner) managed to garner the film rights.

Well, I'll give it four stars, but for me The Lord Of The Rings is still the benchmark... even with deviations from the books.

The 5 Star rating system is limiting. I tend to think in percentages, so I think, better than 80% I give it 5 Stars, which is the case here. The movie has some good effects, but the movie isn't about effects. They enhance the story rather than bury it. The movie was long, but I never noticed how uncomfortable the movie seats were, which I always consider. If I notice the seat, the movie isn't keeping my attention. There were some elements that were glossed over, but the important parts did recieve the detail they needed. There's still an undeniable feeling that the story was wriiten for a younger audience, and the author isn't a master of fantasy, but she is a good story teller, and that does come through. The movie is darker than the previous, the Harry Potter was beginning to take off, she realized her audience was more than teens, and her story writing has had time to develop.
