Are you talking about that pompous, long-winded rant in response to that simple question I asked? It speaks for itself.

I recall the restaurant and something he said being "off" but honestly I have hearing problems in bars and my ears being already strained from the noise in the con room plus with the large group playing I didn't get what was being said.

At any rate... the players avoided the losels, but some kobolds in the Mouths of Madness (I made them an advance guard of the Old Guard...) gave them some grief. They ran into the 'friendly' ogre too. They refrained from attacking, but I think it was mostly out of fear! The one new player stated that he wanted to return for more sessions as soon as we could pull it off. Chalk one up for "old school"! ^__^

My players have routinely avoided the losels.

The Losels are so excellent, but I think any foolish party that would get off the trail to investigate would be insane (unless they are higher level or a large party).
But I really like the whole Losel environment and setting and would enjoy running that for a "prepared" adventuring party.
;D

My players, at the start of our Castle Zagyg campaign, avoided the losels like the plague. Now, as most of them are at 5th level or very close to it, they are starting to express an interest in locating the tribal village of the humanoid abominations to take a few heads. Heh.

...to continue: The party has hired two fighters in Yggsburg (both 2nd level) and have now cleaned out some of the humanoid caves of the "Mouths of Madness". I daresay that they're having a blast, so Thank You Jeff for helping Gary get this part of the whole out! ^__^

Heh! Sorry; been busy with "homework" from work... I'll give with more details soon! Had to mow the lawn (hand push--I'm old-fashioned) after work yesterday, and that just about did me for the evening! ^__^

It was a lot of fun to develop. I think, in the hands of a creative DM, the losel camp and outpost can be transformed into its own small adventure. Gary really captured my imagination with his use of losels in the Gord yarns. Great stuff.
