Did we ever resolve if there was a correction for GREYHAWK's slug entry with the golem chop off?
Perhaps ina different edition?

Ahhh... I see now: The Greyhawk supplement of OD&D! Mine is the 11th printing from 1979 and it still has the cut-off where obviously "GOLEM", followed by a brief description should have gone (pg.40)

A while back we were discussing slug acid damage.
The MM looked like the amount to roll was under damage for the special attack and when I referred to GREYHAWK it appeared missing. The Monster Cards eventually confirmed the answer it had 4d8 listed for acid damage separate from the normal damage.
Anyway, it was never answered if there was ever intact data from that GREYHAWK page somewhere.
What could it be? Dragon has no answers.

That Acaeum website yielded no answers either back then at least. I just checked and they don't mention it in printing differences. Do they have errata on that site?

I wonder if Gary covered this in, say, one of the D-series modules? I seem to recall running a giant slug and not having to seek out the acid damage; but I can't recall where...

In D1 DESCENT INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH Hex R18-19 area 14 in "the caverns and warrens" there is no description of the damage though. They appear throughout the random encounters.
Or in D1-2 DESCENT INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH compilation.
The GDQ 1-7 QUEEN OF SPIDERS compilation put together "A.G." (after Gygax) by Cook and Grubb has the damage for the giant slug being same as dragon breath in the monster reference section.
C1 THE HIDDEN SHRINE OF TAMAOCHAN by Harold Johnson and Jeff Leason has the Tecuziztacatl "Lord of Snails" who is a giant slug but he was definitely a unique creature with weird new attacks.

The later GH printings of the GH supplement include the errata and missing entries on the last page IIRC. I can post that if you guys need it? Or just paste the text in here, too, if that's preferable?

Aha! Thank you, sir! It looks like they still didn't address the slug's acid though. Rats!

Regarding that old conversation that I mentioned about the slug, I think it started with or ended with looking at the Mummy card to see if it reiterated positive and it didn't say anything.

Geez, I totally forgot about the correction page! As far as the mummy goes, Gary said that was a typo and that makes total sense to me! 2E publishers simply didn't know what to make of it, from where I stand. ^__^

Yes, thats the gab, man, I totally forgot that conversation. I was looking for the cards to see if it was reiterated or corrected. Because of this line in DRAGON#51 (May 1980):
and of course the answer was when I found it that they did correct it:
That led to the recalling that in regards to the slug. I wonder if those cards could answer any other nagging questions....

How close is the AD&D giant slug to the one in that Conan story? I think it was one of those REH manuscripts finished by de Camp in the old Lancer series, "The Hall of the Dead"...

It's pretty close, although the slug in the Conan story (refered to as the Curse of Larsha?) I envision to be a bit longer than the average AD&D slug. I think that the MM illo was likely inspired from the REH story...

Here is a bit from POLYHEDRON #16 (1983) on slug damage which correlates the damage on the Monster Cards:
ADQ: What damage does the giant slug's acid do? ADA: The acid inflicts 4-32 hit points of damage. ADQ: Is there a saving throw vs. giant slug acid ? If so, what kind ? ADA: Yes. The victim is entitled to a saving throw vs. Breath.

That same info also appears in the Monster Card entry for the giant slug, IIRC. I prefer 8-32 damage myself
