A great item from a great module. I'm curious about how other have handled the ill effects of possessing the lanthorn. Is it unavoidable? Do you give a save to resist the effects, is it a one time or periodic save? My own idea is to treat it similar to an intelligent sword vs. a character, but with modifiers based on how long a character has owned the item, how many points of damage the lanthorn has healed, and how long the character has gone without food or sleep due to the lanthorn. I'm gonna have fun on these boards with the other "Minutiae Men" of THE AD&D present! Starting here... On page 20 of "Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth", Booklet 2, The description of the Lantern lists a topaz lens, but under the type of prisms Topaz is not detailed. I have pencilled in Topaz--Invisibility--Fuel Cost of 5 years. Anybody else find that one? ^__^

Paul Stormberg recently posted on Dragonsfoot that in the original tournament version, the power of the topaz lens is listed as Slow. Scott

Daoud was the name of the winner of the first Miss Afghanistan pagent. It seems to be a common Middle Eastern name.

Anyways, has naybody ever introduced this item into their campaign? How did you handle the paranoia? Same way I do any other artifact-induced madness: I start to hint at things (being that paranoid voice in the PCs head), then gradually increase that feeling over time. Eventually, I'll strongly color the perception of how they see the world, other NPCs and PCs, etc.
