Frankly, I don't need Gary Gygax to tell me that the majority of D&D sucks ass . As far as I was ever concerned, he doesn't solve or won't solve anybody's D&D product identity problems. As a D&D fan to me directly he's out of the loop. There's nothing that he can do ever to solve it. Thats just the way it is. That said, this is what I can do: 1) Be angry unshiftingly towards Blumes/Williams/WOTC/Hasbro and their replacements Dragonlance/ Forgotten Realms;Greenwood/ 2e; Moore, Sargent, the Cooks & Grubb/ 3e; Living Greyhawk Eberron; Mona, Cook (again), etc./ 4e (who knows what shit is going to be attached to this?). 2) Not buy any toys or games by this company or affiliated companies. Tell others of intelligent "bent" that the woes of the S&S genre are at the hands of brainless corporate controlled D&D. Ban or curb their dollars in that direction. 3) To those of the "quick to judge" set well.... just attach the Satanic sensationalism with the nerdy latter D&D in their minds: " Satan's plan is to make nerds of men so that he can take over the world. Ever notice how the game changed around the early 80's? SATAN!!! "Dragon lance literally means Satan's pen!"

I really lost interest in new D&D products with 3E. I bought a bunch and really tried to like it, but I'm an OD&D fan at heart and the style of the new editions is just not at all similar to the game I love. I've been reading some of the threads and previews for 4E, but I just can't imagine it being as good as OD&D or 1E AD&D.
My current goal in life is to educate my son and his friends. They're all 3E-video game style players and I have run OD&D for them in the hopes of getting them to convert. Nothing definite yet, but they're still interested so I guess I "win"....

Chances are I'll get the core books, but I don't think I'll actually play. Or maybe I'll just read the new SRD when the free version is released.

I've already read the two preview books--it's simplified, but in a 2E way... and I foresee yet another bout of "splat" publications. The bottom line is that a business needs to make money, and the release of new editions and "ad nauseum" add-ons is how it's done. I did hear that "modules" will be coming back... but I'm sure they'll be a far-cry from GDQ or S1.

I’ve looked through the new system a bit. It truly is completely removed from the original game. I can’t comment on it being a good or bad system, just that it is completely alien to me, a 30 year D&D veteran.
