Another one of those great Gygax written areas just dying for personalized development. When I was a kid, I placed a very generic dungeon here. Recently, I had the idea to place Rappan Athuk here. Now I'm getting ready to run the adventure, and I'm not sure. What have you done with this area? Scott

I hate to say it, but it was so long ago when I first ran the module, I forget any details except that I based it off of a smaller version of the "D" series, with few humanoids and more monsters (like carrion crawler, gray ooze, piercers, etc.) Sorry I can't help much more than that... I had the adventure set near the Velverdyva (sp?) River in my Greyhawk campaign--the keep being on the edge of the Vesve Forest.

One traditional solution has supposedly been to set B1 In Search of the UNKNOWN here. I think I'll give it a try when I get there, and let you know how it works out. Regards.

I was very much influenced by the "D" series and that whole Underworld environment. I just thought it was brilliant. I had the Cave of the Unknown lead down and down into natural caves, which ended up being very similar to Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth in description and character. I remember making a situation where they got trapped, fell down a rock slide, and had cave-ins behind them -- they were forced to adventure through the Underworld for a while.

I think the main dungeon area in Living the Lejend is a cave complex; maybe that could be used for the Caves of the Unknown.
