Greg, with all of the AD&D monsters you've put together, I know you have to have some Mythus critters stashed away. Was there a monster book in production?

There was to be the Phaeree Bestiary (partially completed, and I never got to fully edit the rest). Then, there was going to be an "other-planar" book, but it existed only in rough outline--Gary wanted Ascalon, Lost Ziggurat, Deity Pantheon Book, and Phaeree Bestiary first; not necessarily in that order. Then, Changeling and Unhallowed could have been fronted and product put out for them. GDW wanted an established Fantasy genre first before delving into the others. And all was going well until T$R began the lawsuit that spelled the downfall for both companies! And folks wonder why I dislike the T$R of the 90's so much! Seriously, if I ever won the lottery, I would buy the IP and get Frank, Mike McCulley, Dave Newton, Alan Kellogg, John Troy, and maybe a couple of others and release the whole series! (In "classic" form first, and then worry about any "new edition" ^__^)

I think Gary told me he wanted to do Unhallowed first, not for any legal reasons, but GDW wanted to get the fantasy genre out. If Unhallowed would have been released first, then I don't think their would have been the legal issues with TSR.

You are definitely correct on the first count and very likely correct on the second. But Lorraine really did have it in for Gary, so who knows? ^__^

Commentary & Description: The Akhakhazu, or “grasping demon” is a hideous minor demon standing about seven feet tall and having gray-feathered wings spanning about ten feet. Its body is covered by gray scales and its terribly visaged face is noteworthy for its green-glowing eyes and razor-edged black beak. Its arms are lanky and disproportionately long, ending in savage talons.

I'm still not too familiar with the advanced rules. What is the 'R factor' you mention here: "Resistance to Heka (must overcome 9-point R factor to affect demon with Casting or Power)".

Ahhhh--that is extra heka to be spent in order for a casting to affect a creature. If you spend but the minimum, it won't work! THis was a diabolical thing Gary came up with to represent a resistance to magic (heka) use. Since you never know on some critters what the R-factor is, the caster is forced to burn extra heka, "just to make sure"! ^__^
