We played again last week and dinner was chicken, onions and rice. The party was:
- Aeray, 4th level paladin of St Cuthbert (Randy)
- Dain, 5th level cleric of Pelor (Eric)
- Tory, 5th level magic-user (Cindy)
- Balul, 6th level mountain dwarf thief (Ray)
- Brakazar, 4th level half-orc fighter (Brian)
We picked off from where we left off last time, since the characters hadn't taken any damage or used up many spells. In the previous game, they had explored the NW part of the dungeon and found another library with a secret door. Inside were skeletons and a trapped chest. Balul set off the trap which was poison gas and he made his saving throw. Wisely, the others had stayed out of the room when he searched for traps. According to Tory's map, this completed the western side of the dungeon, so they moved to the northeast near where they had fought the troll. On the way they encountered a carrion crawler that tried to attack them from the ceiling but they slew it before any of its tentacles could hit them. They explored a few store rooms and found some giant beetle carapaces and bones, and then in one room found a secret door with stairs leading down. At the bottom of the stairs, they found a portcullis gate that was down. Brakazar lifted the gate and they wedged a table under it that they dragged down the stairs. In a nearby room they found the lever mechanism that controlled the portcullis gate. They found another store room with a crate that had 10 bottles of Keoish brandy and a falling stone trap, which Balul avoided. To the south they saw a wall of fog or mist which only allowed light in about a foot. They threw a plank lit with a continual light into it, and heard it clatter to the floor. Eventually, they tied a rope around Balul who moved into the mist. He held his breath and walked through it, coming out into a dark passage on the other side. After some experimentation, they found out the mist was in a circular chamber that was at a four way intersection. The mist obscured vision but was not poisonous. They went on to the west and saw a red glow around the corner to the north. Brakazar peeked around the corner and was surprised by five fire beetles, and was bit by one! Aeray moved up to help, and within a few rounds they had slain the beetles. To the south, they could see the passage was blocked by a wall of darkness. They encountered two ghouls but Dain turned them and they retreated to the south, behind the magical darkness.
