Watched part one last night. Was movie length episode 1 of 3. Its definitely a unfaithful "take" but its adhering to a lot of the style and atmosphere with good results.

Who is the nun supposed to be? Is that Van Helsing's sister? It looks like they added in some new characters to the mix.

I don't know. They don't explain too much on that angle so far. There is a lot of variance in the Harker stay but its all good. The part with the nuns is a real variance but its actually entertaining so easily forgivable.

Watched part 2 last night. Its new story in the story sort of like the add on love story in Coppola's "authentic" movie but way off the grid totally. The vampire semantics are an interesting take and I think Gary (Gygax) might actually have liked this version.

I liked the Coppola movie for what it was, but I never considered it authentic either. I didn't like having Mina be the reincarnation of his wife... In the novel, Dracula was simply an old monster who lost interest in his wives and to him Mina was simply a new, young target. But like the succubus or incubus of legend, the vampire was only using 'romance' in a predatory way... The best and most authentic adaptation I ever saw was at the Wayside Theater in Virginia. They included the letter and diary writing seamlessly by having the actors read aloud in between scenes.

Well, I liked the third part but the girls didn't so it seems very divisive. Overall it seems like its loaded with aspects from the novel which some might not pick up on. Enjoyably fresh and the actor who plays Dracula is perfect in this.
