During campaign play last night, the PCs wanted to seek out a learned personage to identify unholy symbols found within A0 'Danger at Darkshelf Quarry'.
Have you placed sage(s) within Verbobonc? If so, were they housed in their own tower in the noble's quarter, or residing in the Viscount's residence, or where were they located? What fields of specialized study? What does it take/how much does it cost to gain audience with a sage, or would they simply ignore request for audience by a first level adventuring party?
Who else in Verbobonc might be able to identify unholy symbols with connection to an elemental evil cult?

Verbobonc, I don't know. I had used the FATE OF ISTUS map by Kuntz and the only "brain" location was the Silver Consortium (mages (2nd edition name for any type of magic-user even weak ones), apothecaries, alchemists, scholars, et al).
All roads lead to Greyhawk...

Maybe there would be some sort of Verbobonc scribe/vassal, who would contract locally in The Viscounty for 'brain' work that would then be sent off to a Greyhawk sage to research and issue written responses? Any place for a local mystic in Verbobonc to consult? Optionally a mountebank-type 'scholar' selling spurious mysterious answers for profit?
