Amaimon, the legendary King of the Azer, is interesting:
His name is similar sounding to Agamemnon, and his name is also a word scramble of ammonia?
Do you think this is intentional, and if it is, what do you make of this within WOG?

Do you think this is intentional, and if it is, what do you make of this within WOG? It makes me wonder if perhaps King Amaimon and his azer are steadfastly standing watch over the imprisonment of the EEG, and only adventurers who have to offer ineffable flawless gemstone(s) to King Amaimon would be able avert this King through greed from his oath to ward release of the EEG?

Back in the 80's I was convinced everything D&D had a source in reality and the fact that you could find such things just empowered me to keep going with it. (Plus absolute hatred for my father but thats another story... ) The material in the MONSTER MANUAL (1977) started on a level that translates easily into medieval and for MMII (1983), Gary wanted to recapture that nugget. Thats why its loaded with medievals. The azer is one of those things that is a kernel of an idea and that is how, as a library leech sucking on monster books of old, I constructed the counter azer based on the same BS. Its probably the source of the balrog concept or rather as the balrogs should have been: angels of fire. The "Amaimon" is lifted from the same source material a demonic (READ: fallen angel) who has followers and the "azer" tag just lumped into. This was the material that I had based the elemental dwarves on.

I spent the past week on the Elemental Plane of Air.
The air dwarf has an unfinished leg and foot so the authentic pic has to be an anomaly to a new one.
That raises the question of doing them all new and old.
Plus I know the only thing that people would be gnawing at the bit at is the TOEE thing but I still have to follow up the other series for consistency.
Plus I was pondering how to categorize this because it doesn't fit with my planned planar set up and its not really a "blast from the past" "old standbys from my campaign" or a "campaign classic" if I've redrawn and rounded out the cheap notes.
I was thinking about doing a "Sorceror's Scroll" type image for each article to give it flavor but I don't know. Too busy?

I like this contributing to eventually becoming "Weigel's Bestiary" which includes your original artwork and monster creations!

I have a campaign bestiary folder and its horrible to look at. My worst folder is fantasy Europe it borders on insane where it becomes totally mediocre 1990's gameplay and media insertions then turns into implementing Arthuriana and myth research almost whole cloth with colored pencils over photocopied maps from library research then you find stats on computer game monsters.
