Recommended!
This is a more throwback type horror film, and I enjoy what can be done with the genre without hardly any talking the entire film...

Oh good, I'm glad to hear a positive review. I was looking forward to this one. So many horror ideas start promising but falter by the end.

Saw this last night. My wife and I both enjoyed it. It reminded me of M. Night Shyamalan's style, but without the obligatory cheesy twist (there are a couple of twists, but they actually fit) and heavy-handed religious overtones. The theater was very crowded and everybody remained very quiet throughout, which was pretty remarkable, and seemed to increase the tension of the movie - it was like the whole audience was "in on the act" of trying to remain as quiet as possible. I feel like the movie probably works better in this sort of environment than it will on a home TV screen, where there will inevitably be all manner of distracting sounds from outside (or at least there would be for me, in an apartment in the city).

I watched this last night in a rental "double feature" with HEDITARY (which I liked better). The part I didn't like was the "inadvertent" neglect of the children until it was way too late just for cinematic dread. This would have been a much better horror because it had a lot of horrific elements and scenes setups but it came across as more of a taut thriller. I would have ended a horror version with the baby left alone in a field or something regarding the futility of it all.

Not everyone will agree about Hereditary, but it is like The Upside of Anger, which of course is a different kind of film, but is also a really great one, that not necessarily a lot of people checked out...

I haven't seen the UPSIDE OF ANGER but HEREDITARY I can see getting people leaning different ways. Its hard to talk about anything without giving anything away so I won't. I just want to say I really enjoyed seeing Gabriel Byrne as this character. He reminded me of many people that I know/knew.
