David Trampier disappeared from the gaming scene when his last input for WORMY the ongoing comic in the back of DRAGON magazine was kaput.
Up until that time his last work for TSR seemed to be generic art for two STAR FRONTIERS adventures and a box of robot miniatures dated between 1984-1985. The art looks like cutting room floor FRONTIERS art thats been repurposed.
So why was there a continuation of WORMY then total silence? Tom Wham, his "good friend and brother-in-law", said in 2007 (while Trampier was still alive) that he knew he was alive somewhere in Illinois but hadn't spoke to him since 1982.
Here is my theory.
WORMY didn't end.
TSR ended it.
Why the cover up?
Because "Louie" the mayor of Toadtown (town of monsters) wanted Wormy's demon snookerballs or something bad was going to happen to Bender unless Catfish the Troll stole them. The next issue we were going to meet "Louie" for the first time in a flashback.
Its simple Louie explaining why he wanted the demon snookerballs probably forced them to discontinue the then fragile TSR-Trampier relationship because of his reclusiveness and the Satanic panic that fake TSR caved in to.
"Louie" was either a demon or a monstrous magician who deals with demons who would explain his need for the objects. Some high strung staff at fake TSR saw the dialogue and flipped.

I just noticed this old post, and thought it was a plausible theory. It reminded me of an old blog post I read a long time ago: dyverscampaign.blogspot.com/2014/02/leaving-you-behind-mysterious-vanishing.htmlAccording to that blog post, when Kim Mohan was asked what happened to WORMY he told Phil Foglio payments for the strip were returned unopened. Someone else said Trampier confirmed he had a falling out with Mohan and TSR. And mulitple people said Trampier at times simply became non-responsive to all attempts at communication. This always seemed bipolar to me. I've known some people who when they go into depression they go deep and shut out everyone out and become totally inert while in that state -- including not even opening their mail.
