Ok, I just realized that my sixth printing PHB {January 1980} has various errata, and I found the correct data in dragon #35 March 1980 issue! I got my dragon subscription started later in 1980, so I don't have this issue, and was unaware of the PHB errata!
That clears up some confusion I had run across my PHB that the dexterity = 14 racial maximum for half-Orc PCs: changed to 17 racial maximum with corrections #11C & 15A?!
I did not realize that Druids get bonus spells as do clerics: addition #11B?!
I was always confused what attack table to use for monks, since DMG has monks with clerics, while my PHB states monks attack as thieves?!
Also was confused by my PHB hurled weapons @ -1 medium & -2 long ranges.
I remember being told by a friend in 1979 to wait on purchasing the DMG, because the revised version was coming, so I got the goldenrod revised version as soon as it was released.
But the one thing I found most interesting about the dragon article is "Nobody's perfact" on the top of page 5?!
I remembered that my PHB has "perfect" as 5th level cleric title...I had thought that this was a misspelling of "prefect" as the correct level title, yet now discovered that later PHB printings have no level title at all for 5th level cleric, it is just a blank - what???!!!
So, I am thinking some errata is possibly not errata at all, but Easter egg hints dropped by EGG?!
Which then got me to thinking again on the near-to "perfect" 5th level cleric in the moathouse, Lareth?!
I feel like I am so slow to catching on to this {nearly 40 year late}!
Have you all seen this connection long ago? Does it mean we must look more closely at the too-perfect Lareth, who is really much more than a cleric...?
I'm really thinking that just like Greyhawk's hollow world is all connected, the Gygaxian Greyhawk works {core rule books, modules, accessories, magazine articles, etc.} are also all connected in cryptic ways, with mysteries I haven't discovered yet!
