The VOH module cover art is one of my favorites that evoke menacing villains and adventure.
What things do you all particularly notice in DAT's artwork, and is it possible the the artwork contains any more clues to the original inspired EGG TOEE manuscript that we would all love to peruse?
I was looking at the crayfish image - it seems to me that this depicts an alteration of crayfish anatomy - I see six walking legs, two smaller pincers and two massive pincers, one of the pincers is layered over Lareth's torso, making a crude depiction like the great pincer has 'teeth?' In the whole, it gives a demonic flavor to the crayfish image, perhaps this crayfish image is an EEG foreshadowing?
The artwork on Lareth's torso with the fiery eye and its surroundings, is much more extensive than the fiery eye artwork on Lareth's minions? The black imagery above the fiery eye on Lareth looks roughly spider-like - a foreshadowing of Lolth?
Lareth looks like he is wearing a great helm, with a bold capital "T" opening to the helm - is this standard found in medieval great helms, or is the artwork making a visualized statement?
Lareth is shown attacking with the staff of striking in one hand and a mace in the other - I have not had him use these two weapons at the same time in melee, due to the DMG states off hand weapons are limited to hand axes and daggers? Do you think EGG intended Lareth to be a two weapon combatant using these weapons?
