More on Salvatore than the book right now. I haven't read a lot of Salvatore, and this book reinforces my existing opinion. I like his overall story arcs, but digging down to the writing, it's not very good, cringe inducing at times. And he's been at it for a long time.

His strengths are in plotting and writing action. I find the pages turn easily enough when I read his books. If he hasn't improved in other areas of his writing, I wonder if that could be from milking the same cash cow for nearly 30 years (i.e., maybe he's settled into an easy pattern). Another thing is that once someone is an established writer and proven seller, they may not get edited as heavily (not always a good thing).
