I just watched this and it was good. All the mystery of PROMETHEUS with more mystery. My daughter had a different opinion going with her friend's family (always aiming for MST3K types) and I heartily disagreed. There is a new level of tribute here and the potentials are seething.

I liked it, too, but there were some lore issues I didn't like which I won't mention yet because they are spoilers. And as in PROMETHEUS it irks me that supposedly intelligent characters are not taking the precautions they should, like taking off helmets in PROMETHEUS, not wearing helmets at all in ALIEN: COVENANT! Come on! The characters were far more intelligent, and also better developed in their personalities, in the original ALIEN. As for what I liked in the new movie, the visual effects and the David/Walter interaction -- the Fassbender performance -- make it easily worth the price of admission. I also liked the new monster, the 'Neomorph.' They could have gone with all new monsters, they didn't even need to use the classic egg/facehugger/xenomorph.

Going to stay as spoiler free as possible.
The helmet thing was cocky but I think there is a rationale.

Alright, can I want reiterate without spoilers that I really enjoyed this movie and the more I think about it the more it resonates on a sophisticated philosophical level with all the meanings.

Yes, this movie is chock full of cultural/artistic/Biblical references and symbolism. Did you catch the homage to the Isle of the Dead in one of the shots? H. R. Giger painted a version of it, himself. imgur.com/gallery/QsKYM
