If you saw the trailer for THE MUMMY yesterday during THE WALKING DEAD with Tom Cruise its supposed to be an interconnected Universal Monsters in modern times series. I don't think there are any clues but Russell Crowe is Dr Jekyll. Here it is if you missed it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBEJIjsZ0CsRumor has it that its going to have a Creature from the Black Lagoon eventually so that would be interesting.

That was the highlight of watching that episode. I didn't know there were plans for a new Universal universe though. Hopefully they don't blow it.

Is the Creature from the Black Lagoon a Deep One? It is implied there can be potential inbreeding in the movie, right? The creature kills the men but kidnaps the girl.
I'm up for a revival of the classic Universal monsters. I've always loved them!
I still have this illustrated record album, drawn by Neal Adams... it was Frankenstein, the Werewolf and Dracula! Anyone remember that? There was this craze in the early 70's or thereabouts with comic books accompanied by records you could listen to with voice acting and sound effects. I had a bunch of others as well, produced by "Power Records," like G. I. Joe, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America and the Falcon, etc.

I had a few of those. Dracula vs. the Werewolf is the one that stands out most.

I wonder who will play Abbot and Costello?

I was always a big fan of monster team ups especially FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN (1943), HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1944) and HOUSE OF DRACULA (1945) but the apex was ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948) because thats the one with Bela and Lon although they worked together constantly this is the only one in their finest parts in the same movie.
Could they even pull off a comedians meet Frankenstein today in the same manner?

Alright, I can see why people might not have liked this (I'm guessing its superfluous having a female villain versus a male lead) but I enjoyed it. Magic theories and some alignment debate as well make this an interesting move away from prior Mummy outings. So I thoroughly enjoyed this. I like Tom Cruise and I know some people don't so.
I passed on WONDER WOMAN because I haven't even seen SUICIDE SQUAD yet.

I saw the Mummy yesterday. As a standalone flick it wasn't bad, it dragged in a few spots, but overall it was entertaining. As the launch vehicle for the Dark Universe line, i .e. Classic Universal Monsters, it was a little disappointing. I would have liked it to have more in common with the original. Tanna leaves anyone? And the Mummy's costume was terrible; it looked like something you could pick up at Party City around Halloween time.

I think "slut mummy" is going to be THE choice costume this year! The whole returning to normal section perhaps should have been stretched out but its Hollywood's obsession with keeping the actor's pretty that I find annoying. For instance in general about movies, I want hobbits with stout frames with wriggling feet because the whole "keeping them pretty" thing is so yesterday. Its a Hollywood problem with keeping actor's faces prominent as a default. I fucking hate that story killing BS. There is a lot of elements that were cool though like the turning into lesser mummies Have we seen this before?) and the magic constructions. Can I just say did you notice something from THE MUMMY (1999) was prominent enough to make this seem like a sequel?

Obviously they want to have the same success as Marvel with all the interconnected movies. And after all, Universal did it first, back in the 40's! But will they be able to recapture the charm that the old monster movies had? No, the new films are going to have to be their own thing. I always rank the movies with the Universal monsters as: the originals from the 30's being the best, and the monster mashes from the 40's being not as good but still a lot of fun, and then after that a mixed bag with more bad than good... I hope the writing in the (new) Dark Universe focuses on atmospheric horror and characterization rather than a reliance on lots of CGI garbage.
And yeah, I want to see monsters that are ugly and scary, not pretty and seductive. Dracula and his wives can have the seductive thing going on, but the others, not so much!

Yes! I was like: WTF? Sequel?
There was another direct item from an old unrelated movie in a jar which makes me hope that the related film will be a sequel.

Do you recall the premise for CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON? The expedition starts because they found a fossilized creature hand? Well there was a flesh in fomaldehyde exact replica of the 50's creature arm. So hopefully we're not going to see a beautiful quarter-fish creature anytime soon..
