Yeah, Gene is the artist around here. I'll check out the & magazine. I need to start drawing again, myself. I was trying to hook up my old Canon scanner yesterday, and found the CD to load the software... We'll see how that goes. Maybe this means I'll emerge out of my dusty crypt of 'artistic deadness.'

GM: You see some unkempt figures wearing flannel shirts and holding dry paint brushes... They begin shambling towards you. Player: Are they undead? GM: No, just artistically dead.

I don't think I've seen you draw anything yet.
I think some people find it nerve-wracking. I grew up in the world of "public shaming if you can't draw it right now" because of the fierceness of Brooklyn. It wasn't until I was an adult and watched a video of comic artists erasing and "white outing" everything that I realized that I didn't have to draw it right the first time but it had to be done in a reasonable amount of time.

I drew my wolf face avatar.
I have piles of fantasy drawings laying around... Mostly line art with black ink pens, some in pencil. If I can just get this scanner to work again, I'll scan some in and post them. I used to use Photobucket... Is that still the way to go? Upload them onto photobucket, and then post a link?

Thanksgiving day itself was fine, but my wife woke up sick on Friday morning, which put the kibosh on the rest of our four-day weekend :/
I haven't run a game in a few years. A handful of friends have occasionally hinted that they'd be interested in playing if I ever want to run something so I've kind of got in the back of my mind that I might cash those chits in someday, but probably not until we move to a bigger place where we could also host by which point it's likely at least some of those people will no longer be interested or available, so it may well never happen. One thing that's certain is that I'm long past the point where I'll ever be interested in playing with strangers - it's going to be friends I already know or nothing.

The idea of playing D&D with strangers is completely foreign to me and I can't wrap my head around it, even though it's a norm in some environments such as conventions. I suppose I can imagine a hobby shop "demo game" and allowing people to join in. But having strangers over to my house for a D&D game. Nah, I don't think so. Not unless they we're vouched for by one of my friends.
Huh, I guess my house is like a country club. Members only.
I think the Roll20/Google Hangouts approach could be a compromise in this regard... You could game with strangers but avoid potential awkwardness of having someone in your house whom you realize -- too late -- is some kind of freak.
GOD: Your players show up for your game and one of them is [rolls dice] -- uh oh, a kleptomaniac!

I have no idea. I just signed up for a gallery website but I haven't uploaded anything yet. www.art-3000.com/I don't even know. What the hell is "TUMBLR" about? Is that a gallery website?

As for handling the unknown, I can be very polite but I will crack if its someone with a distracting social problem. I know that it would be nicer because some people have real issues that they can't control but I've found that being aggressive is actually therapeutic and beneficial for people with odd behaviors. Its weird but it works.

Oops - my last post was supposed to be in the Thanksgiving thread.
Tumblr is a social networking site for teenage girls (not officially, but de facto). It's got tools that make posting images and modifying the layout of your pages easy so you could use it as a gallery site but there's a whole community element you presumably wouldn't want to deal with. An ex of mine was very active there and at her behest I ran a couple of movie-oriented fansites there for awhile, but eventually deleted all of them because they were getting almost zero traffic (apparently teenage girls aren't that into the French New Wave - who knew?!).

I tried to get involved with Instagram to keep track but the kids but the glut of their teen friends interacting with "Mr Weigel" was too weird so I deleted fast.

I'm thinking maybe going back to Facebook as all the rotten people have subsided from my life in total now. Is it worth it? Is there anything D&D-wise that I'm missing?

Sure. I'm sure you'll be selective. Ernie recently posted: Tenser was the first magic user ever in Greyhawk. No books or previous experience existed. The first spell I took was a Read Magic and I used it to read the glyphs above a stairway leading down (level 1 to 2). It told us (Rob, Terry and I) that as you descend into the depths of the Dungeon the encounters will be more difficult but the rewards far grander. At 3rd level when facing off with an Evil 5th level mage I asked to join him and turn to Evil with him. He laughed stripped me naked and released me on the 3rd level to die. I made it to the surface. Took a rock in hand and set an ambush on another low level wandering mage. This stocked me with a new outfit, but I truly missed my now missing paralyzation wand. Well two levels later I ran into that fellow with my wand again (random wandering encounter table, then a 1 in 6 chance that it would be him andd not another adventurer). Now I had an Elf and a Dwarf and a fireball wand. He had 3 men at arms and 2 first level apprentices. A Mexican standoff occurred. I said and meant it that I would incinerate us all! My followers made the morale throws, his Evil dudes ran. I captured him and then thought of my situation and so I then killed him so that he could never get revenge as I had. I was always the mapper and would jump into hand to hand if I had no useful spell to throw (Tensers Transformation was created not by me but because of my actions). ALL my characters love magic items and will risk everything to gain them. I only much later turned to Goodness due to an Artifact that to wear and use one must be either Good or Evil (Magic Users Crown). I was the first to hire people to be permanent followers and later when I became 11th level and built a Castle Dad had my followers roll for like/antipathy with each other. So of my 8 level follows only 4 would leave Greyhawk to live with me. The others went off to join Rob and Terry (more of Dads cheating methods to keep game balance instead of allowing me the true dominance my character had so worked for. I was always a fair fellow to my other adventurers (although I would work hard to gain all great items if possible without duress or cheating) and my NPC's not only gained levels but many cool items and were truly treated as family.

A few other interesting tidbits. He added some Erac's Cousin info and confirmed that the PC Serten was a follower of St Cuthbert.

Really, there is no safe gaming space on Facebook, there's always going to be a lot of clutter between the good ones.

Heh, that is cool. I love how Ernie's version of unfair game balance is actual game balance of the highest order when the concept was in its ideal state. Heh, that really is an example of ideal gameplay.

And he goes on: Rafael Beltrame just showed me an article all about Erac's Cousin that I really liked years ago when it first occurred. It had a great deal of data taken directly from Robs Piped Piper boards and some facebook with yours truly. The only thing that is out of kilter is the part about Robilar working behind the scenes to steal some of my followers/NPCs. Rob was by the time of Erac and later Erac's Cousin a co-judge of Greyhawk with many of his levels being added to the game (to be split apart later after dads loss of TSR). My father did in fact make me pick and choose which followers I wished to take with me to my new Castle as Tenser the just level 11 titled Wizard! I had been the first character to start hiring and taking NPCs with me on solo adventures and they were getting to be pretty tough and while not the equal of most other regular players they were getting to be far higher and level and have lots more medium powered magic items than the host of part time players in the campaign. I had two Hero Warlock Elves, a Myrmadon Dwarf with Speed Boots and a Dwarven Hammer. Two 5th level fighters and magic users and my cousin (PC when I was sent to China and believed dead as were Terek and Robilar) and a couple of 2nd level warriors. Gary made a chart for me and then I had to roll 2 D 6. This would tell how they got along with each other and the Dwarf and Elves had a -2 on the roll to each other. Rob ended up with an apprentice and an Elf (who soon later escaped and left the game after Robilar turned Evil and put his few followers to a win or lose situation. Terry got one of the fighters and someone else scooped up a warrior or two... That is but one example of how Dad tried to keep game balance and tip the scales so that people would stay interested in the game and feel nepotism. He did the same thing when I was hired by Tactical Studies Rules in High School he said, "You now work for my partner Brian and so impress him. If something really important needs to be said or you come up with a great idea, well you can always knock on my office door. BUT that is not a license to come and whine and bitch about petty shit.

I started following him on their it seems like I can read without being a "friend" which is cool. I feel if I'm too friendly then I can't be critical especially in the wake of "Gygax Magazine" being so glib and all. I have to be fan first and friend last. Rob taught me well... well, indirectly anyways!

I see live feeds pop up now and then on my Newsfeed, from profiles I've friended or liked, but I don't know how that works exactly. I think it may be as simple as installing the Facebook app on your smartphone.
