I just watched the end credits for MINECRAFT a PC game. I started it at the end of last November.
Way too involved but the simplicity of the blocky style makes it appealing that it doesn't have that quirks that make fantasy so cheesy. I wish this rapid-fire building approach could be done in a realistic style where the look is based on historical fantasy. I think anything is too much to ask of the publishing D&D franchise but I can just imagine the touch of death that bad D&D-isms would do. ("Peaceful creepers", etc.) but if the kept the neutral style in a more detailed manner this game would be great.

There are some pretty big projects out there. I guess the zoomed out views can be impressive. You can find Minecraft versions of King's Landing. Some LotR stuff. I think I saw a ToEE once. My kids are addicts. I've not tried it yet.

Yeah the detail isn't that sharp so I wouldn't use it for a map or anything but the speed is good. One could replicate Castle Greyhawk because it goes down pretty deep but I'm not sure how many levels you could squeeze unless you elevated the entrance height. One noticeable thing would be giant doors/trap that work isn't possible but small scale ones do.
